Doing it Right

POSH Performance Horses

Originally from St Louis, we moved to Kansas City in 2013 and started looking for a barn where our horses would be happy. Whether it be no turnout, not enough shavings, limited hay, or refusal to administer medication and supplements, we struggled to find a place that catered to our horses the way we wanted them cared for. We searched for an environment that allowed us to go home worry free knowing our horses were in capable hands, unfortunately we weren't able to find this.

In 2020, our dream came true and we created POSH Performance Horses. We are a full-care boarding facility that always keeps the horses best interest as our top priority. We strive to care for all of the horses in the barn as our own and we work diligently to ensure a positive experience for both the horse and owner.

We focus on keeping the barn drama free and the horses happy. One of our boarders came into the barn one day and sighed in relief, and said "the horses are always so quiet". We hadn't ever heard or noticed this, but she was correct. The horses are always happy and calm. We've created this environment with the following:

  • All horses get daily turnout. Turnout groups are small to ensure happy and safe experiences. Even if the weather is terrible, everyone gets time in the indoor arena to stretch their legs, roll, or play with our 54" exercise ball.

  • All stalls have some type of boredom buster (treat balls, salt licks, jolly balls, lik-it, hay bags etc.) and we ensure that every horse has a suitable and compatible neighbor.

  • Along with happy neighbors, we want suitable turnout herds. We keep our herds small at 4 horses or less, as we don't want any fighting, biting, kicking, or bullying. We also rotate into different pastures and paddocks for a change or scenery and new experiences to expand mental growth.

  • All stalls are bedded with excess shavings and all horses receive ample brome hay 2X daily. If your horse is a fast eater, we recommend slow feed hay bags so that they get to graze all day/night like everyone else. Along with full hay bags, we always throw at least 1-2 flakes on the ground so that the horses are eating in their natural and healthy body position.

  • We are experienced, calm, and consistent with handling all types of horses, including yearlings, green horses, and 'warm' breeds. All horses are handled and turned out by us, creating a safe environment for them and a worry-free day for you.

  • To ease your mind even more, we also send daily pictures and videos of the horses in our private Facebook Message Group. If your horse has a cut, bump, or bruise you will be notified privately away from the group.

If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas on how to create a stimulating environment for the horses please don't hesitate to reach out! We are always trying to improve as quality care is our first priority.
